Course Content:        

This course will help journalists to develop their existing journalistic skills for television broadcasting.  Television interviewing techniques will be covered with the focus of the session on increasing the range of expertise. If you feel your self-confidence, body language and voice might let you down then this practical workshop is for you.


  • How to look and feel relaxed.
  • How to speak at the right pace.
  • How to show the best of your personality.
  • How to use the right vocal tone to match the content of the interview.
  • How to reassure the audience that you are comfortable in front of a camera.

What you should bring with you:  Some research on the interview subject which will be emailed to you before the training day.

Qualifications:  Experience in scripting a short news item.

Expected learning outcomes:  You will conduct a 4-minute interview at the end of the session. This will be filmed. Prior to the session you will be sent a synopsis of who you will be interviewing and will be expected to have done some research around the subject. You will have sophisticated interviewing skills. You will transform the way you communicate and stay comfortably in control.

This 1 day course costs £100 for NUJ members and £160 for non-members and this includes all materials, tea/coffees & sandwich lunch.
